OMG!!!
Er, I don't quite know what to say, but...
Some anonymous benefactor has solved my picture issue by granting me a years' subscription to Live Journal.
I am speechless at this act of generosity, and unfortunately, the little list of moods provided below does not include any of the following: amazed, astounded, or gobsmacked.
So, as is inevitable at times like this, I shall take refuge in archaeology! Or rather, anthropology...
According to the anthropologist Mauss, there are some rules in small-scale societies:
Firstly, never refuse the gift. And secondly, always repay the gift with a gift of equivalent or greater value at a later date.
So, here's the deal. You know who you are. Sooner or later, I'll be launching a novel out on the unsuspecting world, and a free copy will be yours. I can't promise that the release date is going to be in the very near future, but... When the announcement comes, e-mail me off line and I'll send a copy of it through to you. I hope you like political thrillers set in late medieval Scotland...
And to celebrate, a photograph:-
This is from a Pisan fresco which is in the process of restoration. How it came to be in such a sorry state is another story entirely... You will note that the figure on the left on the lovely grey horse is holding his nose. This is because he is confronting Death, but... I think it's a nice link to tomorrow's post, which will of course be....
The Medieval Drains of Fountains Abbey!!

That's what I love about LJ - people you'll probably never meet IRL are willing to offer help/advice/resources/gifts/good wishes, often without you even asking. Just because they're cool, and you need it.
Enjoy!
