Another One Bites The Dust!!

Well, here we go again.

An 18th century building in the lovely town of Linlithgow (one of Scotland's finest towns!) has gone up in smoke, unfortunately.

Here's the news article:-

Alas.  Linlithgow has lost another part of its historic building fabric, another blow to follow the damage caused by a couple of stupid moronic schoolkids firing airguns at the medieval stained glass windows in St Michaels Church.

Gads, it's enough to make you weep....

It's enough to make me want five minutes alone in a locked windowless room with those kids who shot at stained-glass windows.

Better still - put your Medieval law enforcers onto the case! The crows could do with a bit of food before the winter! If I remember right, they managed to smash around 80 windows. Little s**tbags...

Depressing!

The good news is...

I bet there'll be some exciting archaeology unearthed when they replace that poor old building. Linlithgow's produced a few interesting medieval sites over the last couple of year...

But I think I'd rather have things the way they were.

Egads! But just WHAT would start a fire in a "cupboard"?

Maybe their bedlinen was made of guncotton...

That's such a shame.

It's sad when a piece of history goes up in flames. It's criminal when a piece of history is intentionally destroyed because someone thought it would be "fun". No respect, I'm telling you no respect these days. No link to the past, no link to community to give kids (and adults) a sense of pride of place and belonging.

You'd expect that kind of behaviour in some parts of Glasgow or Ayrshire. In these places, the old estates of the aristocracy were bought up by the state, the mansions demolished, and history completely erased in a Brave New Socialist world approach. You'd expect Linlithgow to be a bit more enlighted, but... The waves of madness and barbarism have even left their flotsam there...
