There's an odd visitor in the kitchen today.
I've just mounted a rescue mission to my father's house, returning with this:-
I've just mounted a rescue mission to my father's house, returning with this:-
It's a Kenner Imperial Shuttle which I bought years ago, and which has had an eviction notice placed upon it. It's been sitting out on a shelf for seventeen years or so, so I've just been cleaning it. I've given this task the the same degree of care I'd give a four thousand year old pot, or an antique plate. Oddly enough, it's worth a good deal more than any of my Charlotte Rhead items from the 1920s or my Beswick horses.
Once it's dried, it'll be put in its box and placed in the loft...
I used to collect Star Wars toys when I was in my teens and early twenties. They're the one form of antique and collectible which has proved a very worthy investment, and this one has been the best investment of the lot.
J can't see any point in keeping them. He thinks I should sell them all and buy some Charlotte Rhead.
I can see his point. But I'm a natural born hoarder, and I find it hard to let things go. I have fond memories of tracking this particular item down when I was at a mart in London, and carrying it past Chelsea Barracks, wrapped in a large black bin bag.
"Don't go leaving that outside our door!" called a smart alec squaddie. on guard duty "We'd have to call in Bomb Disposal!"
Um, yes...
I've just come back from Glasgow, having engaged in my monthly bout of retail therapy. No Dr Who purchases this month - I'm going to have to order Ghost Light from Amazon. But I did get Resistance by Muse. Nice album. They're very good. I really like the way they reference other groups and composers - and they had a huge big chunk of Romantic piano music (I think it was Chopin...) in the middle of a song.
I'd like to see them live, but they're just too popular. They're expensive, and they sell out too quickly. Ah, well...
