Writers' Group tonight, and I might just have got us a new member... C the Archaeologist is into creative writing, so she's thinking about coming along.
What is it about archaeologists?? A large proportion of them seem to dabble in writing fiction...
I went to the Post Office this morning in my digging gear. An elderly gentleman came up to me and said, "So what regiment are you supposed to be then, hen?"
"Bomb disposal, I suppose," said I. "So long as the bomb's more than five hundred years old."
Thankfully, he didn't offer a riposte to that one.
The 'greenware' lids survived the weekend, and didn't get stuck to the paper towels, either. I photographed them, just in case they decide to self-destruct as they dry out. And after diligent washing by the jolly crew at work, the grotty sherds that were dug out of the ground a few weeks back are turning into fragments of stoneware jam jars and red earthenware teapots, all broken and discarded at the 'biscuit' phase.
And kiln furniture. There's lots of kiln furniture. Lots and lots and LOTS of kiln furniture.
I'm in Seventh Heaven. And my prehistoric and medieval-oriented colleagues are beginning to think I've lost my mind....

Date: 2010-07-27 05:44 pm (UTC)There's been a few cycling tragedies through the years. One of my favourite cyclists in the 1990s was another really talented climber from Spain called Jose Maria Jiminez (for a picture, see http://www.world-ofcycling.com/sites/riders/spanien/jimenez_sastre_jose-maria.htm.
He was a lovely looking lad, who should have had the world at his feet. Instead, he committed suicide in his thirties, because his career and his life had gone off the rails. Poor man should have been married with kids and suffering from middle aged spread by now...
