Monday night is Writers' Group night, so I'll be brief.  I know I'm falling behind on prehistoric posts (I'll do a Beaker post in the relatively near future) but I promised bellakara months ago that I'd post some pictures of Caerlaverock , because it looks like a trashed version of some of the French chateaux that she'd been featuring in her own blog post.

So to whet your appetites, here's some introductory pictures.  The name is poetic - translated, it means 'Place of the Skylarks'.  But some of the events that have played out here through the centuries have been far from picturesque.

More of these tales in due course.  Suffiice it to say that this magnificent edifice is the second of two castles to be built in close proximity to one another, on a site which once occupied a coastal location.

It's one of my favourite Scottish castles and it was a real treat to go back and visit it again!

Gotta go now - I've still got some editing to do.  Eeek!!

That is indeed ruggedly beautiful. Do you know if it has ever been used in movies? Looks a bit like one used in BBC's Ivanhoe.

I wouldn't be at all surprised. Though it is extremely ruinous...

That IS lovely - wish we could see it as it was when it was thriving and intact. Look forward to seeing more pictures.
