Another day, another tick spotted.  This time crawling on my team-mate's folder.  Aargh!!!  They're getting closer!!!

Today I felt like I was taking part in an odd version of 'Tremors' - instead of large worms tunnelling through the soft ground, there were legions of ticks ( real or imaginary, or both) swarming through the damp grass.  Never stand still for a second.  Stick to the concrete.  You know it's for the best.

And who was responsible for our icky ticky friends?  Two bold as brass deer who seem to hang out in the neighbourhood.

We also got a really good view of the buzzard.  It was sitting in the middle of the road.  Ruminating?  Loafing?  Philosophising?  God knows.  But it really didn't want to shift, even when I'd edged the car to within ten feet of it.  We got a really good view, yellow legs and all, before it finally flapped off with an 'oh, alright then.  If you insist and really want to go this way...'

I'm currently listening to Sibelius 2.  Wow.  Double wow.  Last time I heard this piece, I was playing it in the university orchestra way back in the late 1980s, with tears streaming down my face and on such an emotional high it hurt.  It's just as wonderful as I remembered.  Except for some inexplicable reason, it's filling me with the desire to be travelling around sea lochs and windswept mountains.  They don't have to be in Norway  or the Faroes (these being the places where I first played this piece, while on tour with am excellent youth orchestra): Mull or Skye would do nicely, thank you.

PS.  To those of you out there who are going 'huh?' at the mention of Jean Sibelius, can I just add that I suspect many Star Wars fans would really like his music...  I'm sure he's one of the many influences that dear old John Williams uses in his soundtracks...

PPS.  This collection of Sibelius symphonies and tone poems, played by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Neemie Jarvie really is an excellent anthology of this composer's music.  If you're looking to augment your CD collection, this will not go amiss.
