Driving In A Winter Blunderland...

Well, here we go again. Had a full day at work, with one of my two assistants present. The other is still beleaguered in Snowville...
We both agreed that it was better to take a short working lunch and to finish half an hour early than to forge on to the usual finishing time. It meant travelling home before dark, and the freezing fog lifted enough to reveal the most beautiful sunset. I wish I could have photographed it for you, as the sky was suffused with the most wonderful greys, lilacs and apricots, all providing a magnificent backdrop to frosted trees and snow-covered hills.
Despite leaving early, I arrived home at the usual time. But I avoided incident and accident, which is the main thing.
It'll be a miracle if there isn't an accident tonight. I wouldn't say it was business as usual out there, but there's a whole load of folks driving along at 60 or 70 (okay, so it's an improvement? Tthey're usually doing 110), on a road which has still got big patches of ice adhering to it in places. This has got so grotty and manky from the gritters that you can't even see it! Methink's they're all being a little reckless...
But enough of the griping. Without further ado, let's take one last trip to the Burns Monument in Alloway. There's a little exhibition space there, which features carved wooden sculptures of some of the characters in Tam o'Shanter.
Here's Tam and Souter Johnnie behaving in stereotypical Lowland Scots form by partaking of some liquid refreshment:-

It being a cold night, I've joined them - I'm currently enjoying a glassful of something closely related to Scotland's Other National Drink (that's claret. you numpties. Not Irn Bru!! Or Buckfast!).
But there's one thing that vexes me. What an earth is Gnasher (of Dennis the Menace fame) doing skulking around behind our two intrepid heroes??? He certainly seems to be enjoying the party...
