My hip was giving me twinges yesterday when I finished work, so I wasn't sure how I'd manage at horse-riding.

I had a half-hour private lesson withMolly, which was really useful, because I was able to dictate the pattern of the lesson and decide what exactly I was capable of doing.  I spent a lot of time discussing the problem with my riding instructress, who's a fellow sufferer, which was extremely useful  She's a lot worse than me, and horse-riding also aggravates the problem in her case.  This made me all the more determined to nip the problem in the bud rather than hope it just goes away...

Despite a few skipped sessions, the pilates seems to be having the desired effect.  I managed about eight minutes in sitting trot without any pain.  I just worked on remaining very loose and balanced on the horse, avoiding any jarring.  Okay, I wasn't going to win any prizes for good horsemanship, but at the end I'd achieved a very nice active trot, even if it wasn't contained and on the bit and the bend left a lot to be desired.  Today, I'm suffering absolutely no ill effects.

So...  I can bumble around on a horse quite happily in walk and trot without causing physical devastation.  Next week, I'll push it a bit further.  To be honest, I've suffered from similar problems before - three years ago, I wound up getting the same kind of pain after lugging a hefty GPS kit, cameras, ranging poles, tape measures and a clipboard around a remote Scottish glen (try climbing a deer fence with that lot, everyone!).  It cleared up eventually, after transforming into low back pain for a while.  But one thing is certain:  I have a weakness there.  I am not invincible.

Work's progressed quite well, though recording the buildings is proving extremely fiddly.  There's bits of pipes and machine stances and all sorts of nonsense to consider, and when you use a tripod to take photos - aargh!  What a pain that is!!!!

No wildlife to report today, apart from the remains of a sparrowhawk's lunch.  Yesterday, we spotted one roe deer, one buzzard, and (bleaugh!!) a dead fox which had crawled into a building and died there.  The poor thing's corpse was dessicated and mummified, and not a pretty sight.

Thankfully, we didn't have to record that particular structure, so we won't have any mummified foxes preserved for posterity in our photos.  There's no way I was going to pick it up and fling it outside, even with a stout pair of gloves on....

And now it's the weekend.  Hoorah!!
