Adventures in A & E...
May. 24th, 2011 08:21 pmI had an action-packed evening planned. It was going to run as follows:-
1) Plant out an annual.
2) My Tuesday evening exercise session - 10minutes stretching and warm-up, 2 minutes run, twenty minutes pilates.
3) Relax in a Lush bath.
4) A nice leisurely blog-post about Pompeii.
Instead, I spent the next two hours in Accident & Emergency, getting a lovely 1 and a half inch smiley face shaped gash in my elbow stitched up, And to add insult to injury, the bloomin' anaesthetic didn't work very well. The doctor was most apologetic. "Oh, don't worry," I said through gritted teeth. "Call it good research for my writing."
Yeah. What a NICE way to spend your teatime.
They say that most accidents happen in the home, and this was no exception. Though I suppose that technically speaking, the accident in question actually happened outside the home. Events ran as follows: I sprang out of the car, navigated my way past the rain-crushed columbines and paenies, then promptly slipped on the steel door mat and in doing so, managed to split my elbow open.
"I think you'll have to go to the hospital," my husband advised, in his best 'We won't Make A Drama Out of a Crisis' voice. And he was right. I was eventually sent back home with three stitches...
And the reason for this debacle? A pair of super-duper expensive walking shoes with vibram soles. I bought these things because I thought they'd be secure for walking. How wrong could I be? This is the third time I've ended up on my derriere on account of these wretched shoes. Though this is the first and so far the only time I've been sent packing to the hospital....
Ah well. The best laid plans of mice and men, etcetera...
