Snow Place Like Home...
Dec. 7th, 2010 05:38 pmI knew the yoga and pilates would come in useful eventually.
This morning, the driver's door was frozen solid. The passenger door was frozen solid. Thankfully, I have a hatchback. The boot opened, so I had to get in that way. It required some contortions, and some shimmying, but eventually I was in place. Only problem was - I couldn't shut the tailgate, so all the heat was leaving the car as quickly as it was generated. Until the neighbour came and rescued me...
It was a trouble free journey into work, though the road was once again extremely dodgy. But my two assistants didn't make it, as the trains were in meltdown (the inevitable points failure...). I was alone in the office until 10, until one of our hosts appeared. He had flu, but had struggled in. If he hadn't been there, I'd have run out of work. They keep their office locked, and the paperwork lives inside it. As it was, Mrs Boss phoned up, fretting, and suggested that I went home at a sensible time.
At 2 pm, I baled out and went home to do another couple of hours database enhancement at home.
Will the work get done with all this disruption? I remain cautiously optimistic: I made good progress on my own today and managed to achieve my desired goals. When the girls get back in, we'll be going full speed ahead, and I reckon we'll just make it.
Anyway, there may not be much point in getting everything done before the holidays. At this rate, we won't be able to reach the Lake District...
Ah well. Such is life...
