Bronze Age Interlude...
Oct. 18th, 2010 06:26 pmIt's the Writers' Group tonight, so I'll have to be brief.
Back to Fountains Abbey tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm going to take the opportunity to revisit the Gavel Moss hoard.
It's taken months to finish inking up the dagger, mainly because I've been out of the office so much and since the drawing board and the pens are there, I haven't had any opportunity to work on it. The drawing was inked up at A3, so that gives you some idea of the size.
Here's the version as it currently stands:-
I may end up tweaking it a little, as I'm not convinced the cross-section of the ribs is properly reflected in the drawing. The ribs looked a bit wobbly on the A3 version, but now it's been reduced, the drawing looks a lot better. It's important to remember that the final version will be much smaller than A3, and that has to be reflected in the stippling.
Next on the list is a flanged axe: I'll show you the original sketch next time I'm in the office...

Having seen the unrest in France on the news tonight, we're keeping an open mind as to whether our holiday destination next year actually will be Carcassone. No point in planning a once in a lifetime visit if all the museums are closed and there's protests in the street. Greece may also be out, which leaves Italy... Or maybe we'll stay at home and avoid any continental angst.
