Garden Update...
Aug. 14th, 2010 02:36 pmWe went out for drinks at a friend's house last night. We returned feeling rather merry, but not too merry to continue the Perseid hunt. I spotted one over the house, which makes the year's meteor count a grand total of one and a half. Humph.
I have just spent the morning lugging timber, weeding, and clearing out boxes at my father's house. During which time I was moaned at for throwing out some packaging, lectured on how to pull up a dandelion, etcetera, etcetera. And he wonders why I don't like helping him???
End result: I now have three nearly new numnahs (I love that word!!) to find homes for. I'm not sure what the going rate is for second-hand numnahs. I think I'll try and flog them for a tenner each at the stables next week. Failing that, there's e-bay...
Anyway, some garden images.
Favourite plant just now is Geranium Buxton Blue, with its exquisite white centre and veined petals:-
A nice plant to get hold of, if you can. Absolutely trouble-free, and a brilliant addition to the garden at a time of year when everything else is past its best.
The Accidental Flowerbed's still looking good just now:-

The annual poppies have been a great success this year. The bees and the hoverflies love them - this morning, when I went outside, the Accidental Flowerbed was a docking station for hoverflies. Loads of the things were hanging out on the poppies, half-asleep:-
It's rare to see them sitting still for such an extended length of time!
A nice colour combination now, of cosmos, lavender Munstead, yellow potentilla and the ubiquitus anagallis:-

Another happy customer is pictured below, on the globe thistle. I think it's been a very good year for the bees and the hoverflies, which makes a refreshing change. They all seem very healthy - hopefully having a flowery refuge in suburbia has helped bloster their population a little in the area:-
