Well, this is the second of my Lake District posts, dedicated to Day Two of our Lakeland Extravaganza.  This was the view across the car park of our B & B towards Easdale Tarn and Sergeant Man that morning.  Slightly different, huh?

With conditions like this, we opted for a cautious route, and one of our particular favourites,  It was a ten mile round trip down into Grasmere, then on towards Rydal and Ambleside along the 'Coffin Road', so called because the poor unfortunates living in Rydal hamlet used to have to lug their deceased loved ones' corpses all the way over to Grasmere for a Good Christian Burial.  There are a few coffin rests still surviving (they make useful seats for the weary!) but it was too cold to linger and photograph them.

The weather started off badly, but the journey from Grasmere to Ambleside yielded a number of picturesque photo opportunities that I just couldn't pass by.  So here are some Atmospheric Shots which help convey some idea of what it was like!

With scenes like this, the effort was worth it, believe me.  Oh, and it gave me a rare excuse to guzzle half a slice of Victoria Sponge as a dessert after lunch (my better half assisted...).  But more of the culinary delights of Grasmere and Ambleside some other time....

These are just so breathtakingly beautiful and I think your word "atmospheric" is perfect. You've captured a sense of soft mystery, quiet expectation as if you'd not want to make a sound nor disturb it.
I can almost imagine bellakara's Lawson hunks blazing across the land.

I'm sure the Lawson hunks would get frostbite in all sorts of awkward places if they went out in that weather!!

HA! But if drinking the Scotch, they may not even feel it:)

Mmmm.

But it would be one helluva hangover when they woke up in the morning. There'd be much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth after that one...

Atmospheric is an apt description :) I especially like the second to last photo with the beautiful trees rising out of the green mounds.

There's another snow storm in the forecast here for later this week. As pretty as it is, I'm kind of getting tired of the white stuff!

Ooh, they really are atmospheric shots! Just need a William Lawson Scotsman to keep me warm, and I'd be all set. ;)
