Wednesday night is horse-riding night, and it's been a hard day at work, so I'm shattered.  So I'm going to keep the Pompeii posts to a minimum tonight...

I thought I'd go for a pretty, photogenic part of the site today.  It's one of my favourite parts of the city:  the Temple of Apollo (which also features a statue of his twin sister, the inimitable Diana (or Artemis, as I much prefer to call her).

It tends to be mobbed by tourists, so I was amazed to find it as quiet as this.  It took a bit of waiting, I can tell you!

I probably don't need to tell you that the elegantly draped bronze figure is Apollo himself...

And another view of the sanctuary area, with the looming presence of Vesuvius in the background:-

And look!  No tourists!  Is that a miracle, or what?

The gods must have been with me, that day...

What gods did you sacrifice bulls to in order to get photos without tourists? :)

I don't quite know how I managed it.

Tough to keep the tourists out of the pictures, isn't it? Those are very nice, and so are all the others you've been posting.

I am so glad I'm not stranded in the USA. Europe is conveniently close from Scotland:-)

Well, fortunately I don't feel stranded here as there's an awful lot to see here too. But it just isn't nearly as *old* as it is over there.

And yes, I've been tempted to emigrate but it's just not in the works for me, I'm afraid. But, boy, would I love to come back and visit.

I guess it's mostly in what one is accustomed to. My sister would feel horrid away from the Rocky mountains but I love the midwest.

Vesuvius creates a stunning backdrop for the ruins. I'm really enjoying your photos.
Oh to be there......

Really enjoying your photos and reports :) Although it makes me want to raid my bank account and go there in person!

I'd need to raid a bank. My account looks very sad after that Norway trip. :)
