Gah!  I just switched on the telly and found that the last episode in Neil Oliver's A History of Celtic Britain is on.

It's Tuesday!  Last time I watched it, it was on a Thursday, I think...

One problem...  I can't help thinking, having been shown a measly blue glass necklace and a pretty bangle and then told how tremendously wealthy the young woman buried with these objects was, that compared to what we just saw at Pompei and Herculaneum and Naples Museum, the young woman in question was maybe a wee bit impoverished...

Ah, what it is to be stuck in the provinces...

I didn't understand why it was on tonight either, but I was channel hopping at 9.05 so got most of it. I agree with you - a bit of gold bling would have been more convincing huh? Blue glass is maybe Accessorise rather than Cartier.

It was rather nice blue glass, very elegantly worked. But still...

Yes, the BBC is cleverly moving Neil Oliver from Wednesday to Thursday to Tuesday in order to foil anyone with an interest in anything beside the Royal Wedding. *gnashing of teeth & biting of shield*

Your visit to Pompei will have spoilt you for British Roman archeology... You will sneer at fragments of mosaic and black burnished ware.

I was looking at the mosaics from Fishbourne or Lullingstone or wherever it was and going, "Oh, for goodness sake! That's a bit amateur! I bet the visitors from the continent had a right good laugh when they left the dinner party!"

I loved his assumption that an ivory bangle had to come from Africa so the lady concerned had to be African (although from the bone structure she was plainly enough of mixed race).

Never heard of Narhwal or Walrus ivory, Neil?
