Tonight, I had the pleasure of being paired up with Molly, for the first time in months.
I like that horse. I really like that horse. She's not my type - piebald hairy cobs just don't press the right buttons for me - but she's a nice, genuine little animal, and she's really good to work with. Indy and Diva are just too much on the forehand - Molly may be intrinsically lazy, but you can tell she runs on four-wheel drive, so to speak.
I concentrated again on perfecting my leg position and sitting very tall and straight, and while it's not altogether perfect and consistent, I am gradually getting the hang of it. And once again, Molly responded, dropping naturally into an occasional outline (I was getting told off for letting the horse distract me), though she's getting a bit stiff laterally and isn't half as well-schooled as she used to be.
I notice a marked change in my motoring behaviour as a result of horse-riding. My speed drops by about 10mph for the return journey, which must make the guys stuck behind me really fed up. All I care about is control, self-discipline, and balance, as if my car was being judged in an advanced dressage test...
To really make my day, Rock Radio (our local station) was playing a huge big chunk of Nirvana's MTV Unplugged session, without any interruptions, as I drove home. Unfortunately, they stopped the set before the end, which left me feeling a bit let down (by then I'd reached home anyway) so I felt sufficiently inspired to put it on the CD player when I got home.
Thanks, Rock Radio. I'd forgotten just how good it is.
