Writers' Group tonight, so I can't loiter...

The Building From The Very Depths of Hell was finished today!  Hooray!!!!!   With five rooms, and twelve different machine sets, it was a bit of an epic.  I still don't know whether we'll be continuing after Wednesday, but I'm told it'll all get resolved tomorrow.

On a sober note...  The composer John Barry has passed away.  He was my favourite composer of modern film music, after John Williams.  I'm not a big fan of James Bond films, but the John Barry soundtracks are invariably breathtaking.  But my all time favourite has to be the soundtrack of Dances With Wolves.  The sweeping prairie landscapes and the the sweeping John Barry themes were a match made in heaven.  He will be missed...

Gotta go.  I made great progress with my writing yesterday.  Finally got the next draft of Part One battered into the computer which means I can now concentrate on editing it...

Hope you're all well!

Congratulations on finishing with the building.

Another LJ friend posted about John Barry's passing. I didn't know him by name, but when I checked http://imdb.com, I learned that I know his music. What an amazing career.

There was a Trevor MacDonald documentary series on the Mediterranean being shown on the television over the last couple of weeks. They were playing a lot of John Barry music throughout and it fitted in beautifully... He does such wonderful sweeping chords which are very atmospheric.

I was a bit irritated because when they talked about him on the news, all they were talking about were the songs he wrote for the Bond films, and not the music.

Oh, there's plenty more to follow. But there aren't many which will be quite that complex...

Hope the Writers' Group was useful. Sometimes I think I'd like to be part of one & then I think ~ just another excuse not to write...

I imagine if you are part of a group with similar aims, it could be excellent & mutually beneficial.

The Writers' Group was excellent.

Over the years, it's gone from being a traditional writers' group (with Writer in Residence) to something more akin to a Writers' co-operative. There's only a couple of us who regularly attend - most of us are at a really advanced stage, and the feedback's very good. If anything, it's really good to have moral support and it makes you keep writing regularly!

When it was a larger group, there were a few clashes of egos and a bit of aggro, and it wasn't always that pleasant. It's much nicer now!!
