Day Two of the Grasmere sojourn now, and some of the most breathtaking views of Grasmere I've ever witnessed...

The Misty Mountains spring to mind, or the Mists of Avalon, depending on your preference.  We stayed low level, thinking that the fells would be unassailable. 

We headed out towards Loughrigg Terrace, along the shores of Grasmere, the lake that gives the town its name.  The path was very difficult in places (oh, for crampons!), but it was well worth the effort:-

 

At one end of the lake, the peaks of Helm Crag and Seat Sandal dominate the skyline:-

 

And at the other end, Loughrigg Fell, which as it turned out was our destination for the walk:-

 

You can see just how bad the path was from the shot featured above...

An ex took me boating on Grasmere once. Beautiful lake.

What's the bird in that last photo? It's probably something boring like a crow, but I feel compelled to ask :)

I presume it's a carrion crow. There are ravens, but they tend to hang around on the fell tops, making you feel very nervous...

That one of the island with trees is very Mists of Avalon.

Looking at the state of that footpath, you were very brave to venture out at all. I was finding it exhausting enough slithering and trudging into town each day to buy food.

Oh how absolutely beautiful! I want to take a boat right out into that mist and go to that little island. You can almost hear mysterious music coming from it, just looking at the picture.

Gorgeous pictures, the mist does give them kind of an ethereal look!
