What's going on in the world?
Firstly... The Burmese government have released Aung Sung Suu Kyi from years of house arrest. We can't exactly call it a victory for common sense and democracy, because it's probably just a short term ray of sunshine in a grim story that's been rumbling on through the years... For the moment, let's just appreciate it as a gesture of genuine goodwill and acknowledge it as a major step forward.
And, if that isn't enough... The unfortunate sea voyagers, Paul and Rachel Chandler, whose round-the-world yachting trip was curtailed when they were snatched by Somalt pirates, have at last been freed from captivity and they're on their way home.
I hate celebrity book deals. I can't stand it when folks get paid millions of pounds for their life story, which most of the time isn't even worth the paper that it's written on. But this once, I'm going to make an exception. I hope that the Chandlers get a top-notch publicity agent. I hope they create the bidding war to end all bidding wars when they sell their story.
Because they sure as hell deserve it after what they've been through!
