Back to Wenlock Priory now, and I have great pleasure to introduce to you the chapter house - yes, that very chapter house which was supposed to get demolished to make way for the New Improved Abbey Church...
It's a lovely survival from Roger de Montgomery's Romanesque original, but what really gives it the 'WOW!!!' factor is the wonderful arcading which adorns the interior:-

It's impressive enough from outside, but seen close up? It's incredible!!!

It's hard to believe, but originally, it would have been brightly painted, with the decorations picked out with reds and blues and golds:-

It was a photograph in a book showing the interior of this chapter house that first caught my eye, and made me think, 'oh, I really, reallly have to go and visit that place!!'
And oh boy, was it worth it!!!
