The Athens of the - Midlands!?!

I was supposed to be going out to the Writers' Group tonight, but Sophie & I blundered into a pothole on the way home and she has now got a humdinger of a flat tyre. Is there such a thing as a humdinger of a flat tyre? I'm not sure about that, but if there is, I've got it.
To Birmingham, now. And the miniature Acropolis that still lurks at its heart.
Here's the Parthenon, aka the Town Hall:-

I first encountered this building while driving randomly around the city in search of the hotel. It was lit up with blue light and very ethereal, and I thought for a moment that I was hallucinating...
And now the Museum, which is rather more Italianate in style:-
