It's turned into one of those days.
I had a volunteer helping me with some finds work today - it was quite rewarding, six sherds of medieval/early modern pot were weeded out of the modern pot bag and escorted briskly into the med pot box where they belonged, and a fragment of clay tobacco pipe was also moved in a similar fashion.
Right in the middle, The Boss came in, wanting to edit another paper. It was one of the short ones, so rather stupidly, I put it off until about forty minutes before home time.
That was fine to begin with. It was one of the short ones, and I'd assumed nothing could go wrong. Until I turned over, and saw the mass of pencilled comments that I'd written. We wound up bickering endlessly about the definition of early prehistory versus later prehistory in a Scottish context, and then there was all the hassle of properly defining timber-post enclosures of the Neolithic, etcetera, etcetera.
So now I'm running late and it's the Writers' Group tonight.
Aaargh!! indeed!
