It's turning very cold again.  So cold, that I'm giving the Writers' Group a miss tonight.  I've no desire to get frozen out of my car in Paisley Town Centre at night, thank you.  Which is a shame, considering that this may well be the last opportunity I get to hand out Christmas cards to my pals...

We're making excellent progress at work.  We'll make our deadline easily, which means I might get to take all of next week off, and this means that I might actually make it to the Lake District.  Weather permitting, of course - there's meant to be more snow at the weekend, worse luck.  But the good news is that earlier fears that the Atlantic Conveyor system (aka the Gulfstream) has failed have - according to the BBC- been discounted,  So we're not guaranteed St Petersburg winters just yet...

Since I haven't been visiting any exciting places recently, I'll be devoting the next few posts to Iona, and the stone-carving school that was active here in the late medieval period.

Here's a general view of the abbey, complete with scaffolding:-

The carved stone crosses are particularly wonderful - there are some marvellous examples on Islay, too, but unfortunately when I visited Islay (also famed for its malt whisky...) I was still shackled to a conventional camera...
