Fountains Abbey - The Cloisters

Back to Fountains Abbey now.

Leaving the abbey church behind, it's time to visit the cloisters.  Here's the entrance to the chapter-house, which is rather glamorous:-

And now for the piece de resistance.  The interior of the laybrothers' refectory.  It could seat 200, which demonstrates just how many people were gainfully 'employed' processing the products of the abbey lands and servicing the monastic communities:-
 

 

The exterior is just as impressive:-
