Today, it was more of the same from Galston.  I'm not complaining - the gods/ancestors were very good to me.  There was light rain for half an hour before lunchtime, and there was another spell of heavier rain just before I was going home.

There was, once again, nothing to see.  And although I'd been hoping to be sent home early once the digging was done, it was not to be.  Once again, the office had to cope without me.

It's finished now, thank goodness.  And the first load of pottery has arrived back from the 19th century pottery site that my colleagues are digging in Glasgow.  Ooh!!!  Exciting!!!

And now it's time for plants.  The weather is utterly vile now - it's driech and dark and pouring with rain.  So I'll post some nice plant photos to try and cheer myself up.

Firstly, let me introduce you to the Japanese Iris.  It's one of the few irises that I can grow with confidence, because the slugs don't like it.  I've planted a few, but only two have survived to date, and only one of these has flowered.  I think they're quite fussy about where they're planted:-

It has beautifully veined petals, which aren't quite visible in this photo.  The big pot I planted up is doing extremely well:-

Lastly, a happy begonia.  It's one of Thomson & Morgan's 'Aromantics', and it smells very nicely.  I'm very fond of this one, because it's got a lovely delicate colour and it's not too in your face!

Now some news of the demolished begonia, that fell foul of the high winds a little while back.  New shoots are showing, so it will hopefully make a full recovery!  It probably won't get back to its usual striking self until next summer, but at least it's still with us.
