It's been a hectic day.  I've had to write up a draft report for Friday's watching brief in double quick time - it's expected by the archaeological curator tomorrow morning...

I just about managed it.  The location plan's outstanding, but I can rustle something up for that while The Boss is doing his hatchet job with the edit tomorrow morning.  So far, so good...

I was pleasantly surprised today when an e-mail dropped into my work mailbox from a former colleague I worked with ten years back or more.  She congratulated me on the recent publication of my thesis, which had recently appeared on the library shelves at her workplace (which is a very respectable organisation, I hasten to add!).

Hoorah!  The metaphorical delinquent teen that used to turn up on my doorstep shouting and swearing in the small hours has now polished itself down, got itself a job, and is at last doing okay for itself.

It's a peculiar feeling, to know that it now has an existence independent of my own.  I'm sure our lives will intersect from time to time, but from now on, I'm confident it can manage without me quite happily.  It'll be nice to see how it gets on through the years.  At least I can rest assured that the publishers have sold one copy, even if I won't get to see a penny from the proceeds.

On a darker note...  One of my magnificent helleborus lividus plants (the pink one!) has died!  I thought I'd killed it through neglect in the drought, but instead it seems to have rotted at the crown.  I've never known this from a hellebore before and I'm quite disappointed.  I don't think it's going to be an easy one to replace...
