A brief post tonight, I'm afraid.

I've just been reunited with Molly, after a gap of three weeks.  Once again, I forgot the digital camera, so there's still no photograph of my equine partner-in-crime!

It's summer time now, so we'll be spending a lot of time out in the fields instead of working in the school.  This usually frustrates me.  When I spend money on horse-riding, my aim is to improve my skills.  Bumbling about in a field just doesn't do it for me...

But...  When you haven't been on a horse for a couple of weeks, it's good to ease in gently.  And it's always nice to be outside in gorse-blossom time.  The whin bushes are in bloom all over the trails where we were riding tonight, and the perfume was heady.

The smell of gorse blossom is wonderful.  If you don't know how it smells (Greek gorse doesn't seem to have any perfume at all!) then how can I describe it?  Well, fresh pina colada springs to mind.  It's fruity, with shades of honey and vanilla. If you're familiar with the Pineapple and Coconut Smoothie from Innocent, well, that'll give you some idea.  We get a lot of it in Scotland, and when the gorse comes into bloom in springtime, the countryside smells divine.

Anyway, Molly thoroughly enjoyed her sojourn in the fields.  We were in the school for quarter of an hour at the end of the ride, and Molly was a horse transformed.  She was bright, energetic and a Very Happy Pony indeed.  How can I begrudge her forty minutes of ambling over the hills, spooking at the roe deer and gawping at the lambs clambering over the walls?

No Minoans tonight, I'm afraid.  I've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow.  I'm up at 5.15 to embark on a watching brief in deepest, darkest Wigtonshire, so it's going to be a very long day.
