Close Encounters of the Bird Kind...
Feb. 27th, 2010 01:18 pmI never did submit my results to the RSPB 'Great Garden Birdwatch'. I was too embarrassed...
In our second major snowfall of the year, our bird population has been transformed. We have full quotas of blackbirds, robins, dunnocks and goldfinches. A pair of siskins are making a regular appearance.
Whenever I go outside to replenish stocks of food, everyone flies away. All except for one blackbird, who is. I'm afraid, a bit of a moocher. He comes to meet me, because he knows I'm a soft touch. Every time he sits under the azalea looking hopeful/expectant/pathetic, I have to go back indoors for a handful of Fruity Nibbles to placate him.
Yesterday, we were visited by a fieldfare. My husband took copious photos to help me identify what it was, but they're rather blurred, so I won't inflict them on you. Today, we have two fieldfares.
Tomorrow... Who knows? Three fieldfares, perhaps! They're demolishing apples at a rate of knots...
