It's Not Over Yet...
Jan. 14th, 2010 09:09 pmAs I write this, I'm taking a well-earned rest from final copy-editing. Two days to go before I have to submit my manuscript to the publisher, and things aren't quite going according to plan.
I found six typos. in Volume One. One of these was fairly serious - a wrongly numbered figure. Because I'd already printed out a 150-page document from a .pdf, I was reluctant to make the changes and go through the whole sorry rigmarole again, for financial reasons more than anything else (the manuscript for both volumes totals approximately 500 pages and in the process of printing it, I've gone through an XL printer cartridge in just two evenings).
I'm getting so tired of this thing that I was almost inclined to let it go and tolerate the mistakes with gritted teeth, laughing them off as necessary. But all was not lost! I talked to The Boss, and he very helpfully informed me that I can remove dodgy pages from a .pdf and re-insert corrected ones (as I mentioned in a previous entry, he's very handy at advising on such things!). So sorting out the typos. will be a fairly straightforward, if not rather tedious, operation.
I was all set to crack on with it at lunchtime today, but then the server had some down time, so that put me back a bit.
Thankfully, everything's back on track now (with just a duplicate page to obliterate in the .pdf of Volume II). But it's hard work, and I'm getting to the stage now when I really want it out of the way as soon as possible.
