Bear it in mind for future referecne- it's an easy rail trip out of Roma. My own view is that it's considerably more impressive than either of them- it was Rome's port and when things silted up, it just got slowly abandoned over decades rather than anyhting more explosive- there are insulae still rising to three floors in height! Vast amounts- over two thirds- remain to be dug.
The fortress in the new (mediaeval) town of Ostia is also well worth a visit.
It's an industrial working town, not the Roman equivalent of Margate or Blackpool :o)
