Why, Wales put in a creditable performance against Scotland in the rugby field.

This may change next year, but, between you and me, I secretly cheer on Wales in Wales v. Scotland, because I like being Welsh!

Oh, what an upbringing I had. All my Welsh Aunts and Grannies used to declare, "Oooh! She's proper Scots," while my Scottish schoolfriends used to tease me ceaselessly about my silly accent.

Now I know that I'm an inadequate Welsh person. Since all I can say is 'Hello, everybody' and 'The pencil is over there,' "Cheers/good health" and recite the name of a certain railway station. And I can't write any of this down!

Oh, Lordy me! They're all talking Welsh now. I really should excavate my Welsh language textbook from my Dad's house. I bought it with my pocket money at the age of twelve when I was suffering an identity crisis...

I think "Dim byd yn bod gyda hynna" means "Nothing is the matter with that."

"Bod" can mean "being", but is some contexts, it best translates as "matter" as in "Be sy'n bod?"/"What's the matter?"

So "Dim byd yn bod gyda hynna" is "Nothing the matter with that."

I confess, I put it into a google translation link. I would not even attempt to learn Welsh: just trying pronunciations leaves me tongue-tied! :-/

But where did the translator come up with "ashes"? Still weird.

I have no idea where "ashes" came from, neither the tree nor the residue from a fire resemebles the word "hynna". Sometimes that google translate seems to have a vivid imagination! :)
