These gravestones are fascinating. You've made me wonder whether there is anything similar from that period here. I don't ever recall seeing any, but that might just mean I haven't been looking in the right places.
PS I love the idea of a winged haggis. Perhaps it's not just grouse they go out shooting on the Glorious Twelfth. Or perhaps it was hunted to extinction, like the passenger pigeon? :)
